Jane,
You have to tell them that you gave me permission. You are right there, among the police, they’ll listen to you. I saw the way he looked at you while we watched TV at night, and I couldn’t blame him. Lord knows even when I was young I couldn’t compete, and now I have no chance. But when that look in his eye turned, well, you and I know it meant.
He’s happier this way. He’d never be able to join the wedding party on his own. Harold never had the guts for these sorts of things.
But they’re hauling me off, putting me on suicide watch and treating me like Adolf Fucking Hitler for doing what an old man would have wanted his dear wife to do. I don’t blame you, but you’ve got to remember the little people.
