John Stag’s Fifth Letter

Dearest Jane,
I went to the editor today. He tried to hide from me, but his intern has heard your sweet call and rejected his lies. She told me everything I needed to know to find him.
Oh how he hid from you. Locked away on the top floors of his home, surrounded by his notes and the debris of his meals not yet dragged away by the maid who could not make up her mind who to serve.
When I came in, he expected me. Not because you warned him, but because your pursuer did. The editor stank of the earth, and of freshly printed bills. He denied at first, screaming for the police, threatening me with the law—as if justice could touch me. But, he did not last as long as the first servant. And he told me everything that he knew.
I know where your pursuer lurks. I know why he desperately moves this pitiful man to try and stir up resentment towards you. And I know what I have to do now. I hope to send you another letter after I have done what has to be done.
Yours Forever,
John Stag
P.S.: I respected your request Jane, trusting that you will handle the police for me.
